Ever Evolving You
I have been thinking lately that retirement, unlike life's chapters that preceded it, truly is uncharted territory. Retirement is the first chapter of life that is not pre-scripted by external expectations. Every chapter before this one comes with a built-in map - the learning years, the earning years - but not retirement. Retirement is the first time in life where the structure is not handed to you – you author the structure. And so, we begin a chapter of discovery to figure out how best to live in retirement. But here is the thing, no matter how long you have been retired, there is a sense of “figuring it out” that does not go away. This is not a bad thing – it is the realization that life is complicated and ever changing. We are not meant to stay the same; we are meant to grow and learn. As you evolve you may choose to change how you spend your time, what you prioritize, what routines you establish, who you spend your time with, how you handle and spend your money, what brings meaning, contentment, joy, peace, satisfaction – these things are continually evolving as you evolve.
