We the People: Bringing Civic Learning to Life

How can we help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to participate in civic life? Join the Minnesota Humanities Center for a free, daylong professional learning workshop exploring We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution, the Center for Civic Education’s nationally recognized civic education program. Designed for current high school educators (grades 9-12), this interactive workshop offers an opportunity to experience We the People firsthand and explore how its curriculum and instructional approach can strengthen civic learning. The day will include a presentation from a humanities scholar connecting broader questions of history, identity, and civic life to the idea of “We the People,” along with an introduction to inquiry-based learning and how the program supports it. Participants will explore the curriculum and its connections to Minnesota social studies standards, hear practical insights from experienced educators and program leaders, and get a taste of one of the program’s signature elements through a fun introduction to simulated congressional hearings.
