Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 22, 2026

Highfive is a curated guide to events in the Twin Cities, operated by Venn LLC ("we," "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it. We've tried to write it in plain language rather than legal fog.

Short version: we collect the minimum we need to run the app, we don't sell your data, we don't run ads, and you can delete your account at any time.

1. Who we are

2. What we collect

When you create an account. You can sign in with a link sent to your email, or with Google. Either way we store your email address. If you use Google sign-in, Google also gives us your name and profile photo, which we store as your display name and avatar. We never receive your Google password.

Your preferences. If you set them, we store your home city, your preferred categories and neighborhoods, your preferred audience (for example, events suited to young kids), whether you want to see only free events, and how you like the app to open. These exist to make the app useful to you and nothing else.

Your saved events. When you save an event, we store which event it was, when you saved it, and a copy of the event's details as they appeared at that moment, so your saved list stays readable even if the original listing changes or disappears.

Your searches. We process the text you type into the search box in order to understand it and return results. See Section 4 for the detail on this, because it involves a third party.

Location, only if you ask for it. If you use a "near me" or distance filter, your device sends approximate coordinates along with that one search. We use them to calculate which events are within your chosen radius, and then they're gone. We do not write your location to our database, we do not attach it to your account, and we do not build a location history. If you never use a distance filter, we never receive your location at all.

Basic technical information. Like most websites, our hosting and infrastructure providers record standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, for security and reliability purposes.

What we don't collect. We don't ask for your phone number, your date of birth, your address, or any payment information. We never handle payments — see the Terms of Service.

3. Why we use it

We use the above to sign you in, keep you signed in, remember your saved events and preferences, return relevant search results, send you the emails you've asked for, and keep the service secure and working. That's the whole list. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.

4. Companies that process data for us

We use a small number of third-party services to run Highfive. They act on our behalf and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

About search and OpenAI. When you search, we send the words you typed to OpenAI so it can work out what you're looking for — that "events for kids on Saturday morning" means a particular date, time and audience. We send the search text only. We do not send your name, your email, your account ID, or your location with it. Under OpenAI's API terms, data sent this way is not used to train their models.

5. Emails

If you sign in with an emailed link, we send that link. That's a functional email and you can't opt out of it while using that sign-in method.

If you sign up for the Highfive newsletter, every edition includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. We won't send you marketing email you didn't ask for.

6. Cookies and local storage

We use only what's necessary to keep you signed in and remember your display preferences. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels.

7. How long we keep things

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we delete your profile and saved events. Backups may persist for a short period afterwards before rotating out. Aggregate, non-identifying statistics (such as how many people searched for outdoor events in a given week) may be retained.

8. Your choices

You can, at any time:

  • See or correct your profile information in the app
  • Delete individual saved events
  • Delete your account entirely, which removes your profile and saved events
  • Unsubscribe from any non-essential email
  • Turn off location in your browser or device settings, at which point distance filters simply stop working
  • Ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it

For any of these, email hello@highfivemsp.com and we'll take care of it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act, the California Consumer Privacy Act, or the GDPR. We'll honor requests under those laws regardless of whether we're strictly required to.

9. Children

Highfive lists many events suitable for children and families, and we're glad when families use it. However, accounts are intended for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we'll remove it.

10. Security

We use encrypted connections, and access to our database is restricted by row-level security rules so that one account cannot read another's data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures and we'll tell you promptly if something goes wrong that affects you.

11. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that meaningfully affects you, we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, notify you in the app or by email.
